Traceability grants to help boost Aussie exports

A new $4 million traceability grant round has been opened by the Australian Government to help grow the country’s trade relationships and enable more effective responses to any biosecurity and food safety incidents.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Julie Collins MP said: “The Albanese Labor government is committed to modernising and enhancing the nation’s agricultural traceability systems and this new $4 million grant round is an important part of that commitment.

“Agricultural traceability provides the evidence needed to maintain Australia’s status as a provider of high-quality, safe and sustainable food and fibre products.

“There are trade benefits with increasing demand for proof of origin and sustainability for Australian livestock and meat products, so this will help market access overseas.”

Grants of between $50,000 and $500,000 (excluding GST) are available to fund projects that:

  • align processes and technology to collect data that meets regulatory requirements and provides valuable feedback to farmers;
  • support industry to implement interoperable traceability systems;
  • implement a communication and education campaign to strengthen awareness of agricultural traceability.

Successful grants will aim to deliver measurable outcomes that:

  • improve systems that track and trace agricultural products through export supply chains;
  • help exporters use these improved systems to stay competitive in global markets;
  • encourage more farmers, producers and processors — especially those dealing with high-value products — to consider exporting;
  • make sure improvements are cost-effective by using existing systems and technologies wherever possible.

Applications for round 4 of the Traceability Grants Program close on 18 February.
