National WHS strategy announced
A 10-year national strategy to reduce workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses in Australia has been agreed on by all Australian governments and released.
The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023–2033 is evidence-based and sets a national vision for work health and safety (WHS) outcomes in Australia.
The strategy outlines targets to measure progress over the next 10 years, including a reduction in worker fatalities caused by traumatic injuries by 30% and a reduction in the overall incidence of work-related injury or illness among workers to below 3.5%. It will provide a high-level framework for WHS jurisdictions to adapt and align activities and areas of focus, guiding the work of Safe Work Australia and its members.
It will also benefit all those in the WHS system who play a role in realising the national vision, including WHS researchers, experts and practitioners.
