Exclusive mango rights up for grabs
The Queensland Government is offering commercial access to three varieties of mangoes. Under the agreement, three mangoes that have been developed as part of the National Mango Breeding Program are available, with the winner of a tender being given exclusive propagating, growing and marketing rights for the custom-developed mango varieties.
The varieties have been developed to account for agricultural weaknesses in the Kensington Pride mango. Their names are pending, but expect them to be more charismatic than their current placeholder names such as NMBP-1201. The mango varieties could launch soon, with small volumes of the fruit possibly being available this season.
Exporting the mangoes is also a possibility, with Singapore specifically being considered as a potential market.
