A $700,000 grant is helping Tasmanian Bakeries expand its operations by 80% and employ a further 22 staff. The grant was awarded as part of the Australian Government’s Tasmania Innovation and Investment Fund.

Mark Dreyfus, the Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Innovation, toured the company’s facility on 25 July with the ALP candidate for Denison, Jane Austin, and discussed Tasmanian Bakeries’ commitment to environmentally sustainable operations.

“With the help of a $700,000 grant from the Tasmania Innovation and Investment Fund, Tasmanian Bakeries is investing over $1.5 million to purchase new equipment for pastry making, meat processing and cooking, pie and sausage roll manufacture, baking, freezing, chilling and wrapping,” said Dreyfus.

“The result will be an enormous capacity upgrade to meet the demands of their Australian customers with 200 product lines and a planned expansion into overseas markets.”

The Tasmanian Innovation and Investment Fund has allocated $8 million to projects to diversify the Tasmanian economy following restructuring in the forestry sector. In total, 28 projects have been supported by the fund, which is expected to generate nearly $20 million of investment and create more than 260 new jobs.
