Don’t keep your research a secret

Secrecy in food R&D will spell market failure for some players, Dr Ad Juriaanse, NIZO food scientist, has warned Australian dairy manufacturers.

Juriaanse claims that firms that do not share R&D are "going to be found out by the market and overtaken".

"You have to look elsewhere, what other people have to offer. You hire and use other people's knowledge. You're silly if you develop knowledge and you don't sell it to someone else. You'd be leaving your money on the shelf. You should be looking around for partners, for new technologies, looking for people to offer professional project management. You know how expensive it is if you start afresh," Juriaanse said.

"In every knowledge chain there are gaps; what you need is a sort of glue."
