Sunny Queen targets five goals with sustainability plan

Sunny Queen Australia has released a Sustainability Strategic Plan built around the five goals of zero hunger, good health and wellbeing, decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.

The plan aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and commits to 30 actions for its business practices to target its five goals.

Sunny Queen is committed to addressing food insecurity and has a five-year partnership with hunger relief charity Foodbank Queensland. The company gifts 7200 eggs a week and provides yearly in-cash contributions to the charity.

Since the inception of the partnership, Sunny Queen has donated more than 815,000 eggs and raised enough money to provide more than 334,000 meals to families in need.

Another objective of the plan is to reduce CO2 emissions across the company’s major sites through increased use of renewable solar generation. It has installed 626 solar panels at its Carole Park Head office, which has allowed the business to offset over 126.6 tonnes of CO2 annually. 88% of packaging used at this facility is also either reusable, recyclable or compostable.

Sunny Queen aims to have 100% of all plastic reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2030, increase solar generation across all its sites and boost transport efficiency by maximising load capacity and route effectiveness to reduce fuel consumption and impact on the planet.

The plan also considers Sunny Queen’s commitment to internal and external initiatives to promote healthy eating and support the community.

Sunny Queen has launched six products with a 3.5 star health rating over the past two years, with plans for more. The products are part of Sunny Queen’s ‘frozen range’ and include Mini Fritters, Protein Bites and Omelette Rolls.

“We are integrating sustainability initiatives into our day-to-day activities to reduce our impact on the planet while continuing to provide healthy and nutritious food to millions of people every day,” said CEO and Managing Director Julie Proctor.
