Universal Robots has launched its simple-to-program robots in Australia and New Zealand. The robots are suitable for small and medium-sized businesses in the manufacturing, packaging and process industries.
The company says its robotic arms are suitable for companies for which robotics and automation technology have traditionally been too expensive, cumbersome and difficult to program. The lightweight UR5 and UR10 are designed to integrate into existing production processes and work alongside personnel with little or none of the safety shielding usually required by robotic equipment.
The products are plug-and-play and have a simple user interface, which means they can be programmed and operated by people with no previous experience, simply by holding the robot arm and physically showing it what to do.
Instead of sensor technology, the UR5 robotic arm uses a patented technology to measure electrical current in its joint to determine force and movement.
The robots are distributed in Australia by Sensorplex and in New Zealand by Design Energy.
