Supermarket survey: suppliers asked to comment
Suppliers to Australia’s large grocery businesses — Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and wholesaler Metcash — are being asked to share their experiences as part of the government's Food and Grocery Code Supervisor’s annual survey.
The survey is designed to monitor relationships between suppliers and the large grocery businesses to identify emerging issues and assess compliance with the code.
This is the first survey since the mandatory code came into effect on 1 April this year, with the 2025 survey results being used to help shape future policy and regulation for the sector.
“Our farmers and producers supply the high-quality food that we all love and rely on, which is why they deserve to be on a level playing field with supermarkets,” said Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon Julie Collins MP.
“Our reforms, including making the Food and Grocery Code mandatory, are focused on supermarkets giving farmers a fair go at the farmgate, and families a fair go at the checkout.”
The mandatory code introduced reforms including penalties for code breaches by the large grocery businesses and strengthened dispute resolution mechanisms.
De-identified survey results will be published in the Code Supervisor’s annual report and presented on the interactive dashboard on the Code Supervisor’s website.
Eligible suppliers will have received correspondence from the Code Supervisor, Professor Elizabeth Sarofim, inviting them to take part in the survey, which is now open until 11 November 2025.
