New award category for HACCP Conference

Friday, 09 August, 2013

A new award category commemorating a food industry pioneer will be presented at the 20th Australian HACCP Conference this month. The Ross Peters Memorial Award has been created in memory of the former technical director of Advancing Food Safety, who played a significant role in the Australian and international food industry.

Having worked within the food industry and government sector for more than 40 years, Peters sadly passed away suddenly in 2012. He was a joint winner of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology’s (AIFST’s) Food Industry Innovation Award in 1999 for Woolworths Vendor Quality Management Standard.

He was also a long-standing Professional Member of AIFST, an active member of CAFTA (Council of Australian Food Technology Associations) and president of the Food Technology Association (FTA) of NSW.

“Ross encouraged excellence within the food industry, which is what led to the creation of Advancing Food Safety over 20 years ago,” said Damian James, general manager, assurance services, Advancing Food Safety, SAI Global. “To mark the impact of his influence on education, we’ll be awarding a current industry leader who we believe has also made a significant contribution, honouring Ross’s memory and continuing his legacy within the food industry.”

Advancing Food Safety, SAI Global has also announced finalists for four award categories. The winners will also be announced at the HACCP Conference.
