Arrow Scientific GreenLight food safety tests range
The GreenLight range of food safety tests provides easy, same-day detection and enumeration of bacteria in food samples by measuring bacterial oxygen consumption (bacterial respiration) and equating oxygen consumption to microbial load.
As bacteria in the test sample grow and respire they deplete O2, which is detected as an increase in the probe signal above the baseline level. The time required to reach this increase in signal is used to calculate the cfu/g of the food sample, based on a predetermined calibration.
Model 960 is an AOAC RI PTM-certified assay (061002) suitable for process control and quality control analytical laboratories in raw meat processing facilities. Users can process from 25-200 tests/day, with a lower test volume configuration also available.
This rapid food microbiological method enables the detection and enumeration of total viable counts (TVC, APC, SPC) within 45 min, including sample preparation time, for samples with high contamination levels (≥108 cfu/g) or within 12 hours for low levels (≥103 cfu/g) for selected raw meats; ground beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey.
The test method is rapid, easy and sensitive without the need to conduct multiple MPN sample dilutions or lengthy counts on agar.
The assay is a simple mix-and-measure test. Homogenates of food samples are prepared as for traditional TVC testing on agar plates, dispensed in the wells of a standard 96-well plate together with the oxygen-sensing probe, covered with mineral oil to exclude ambient O2 and measured on a fluorescence reader at 30°C.
Software does all the necessary data processing and calculations from the plate reader.
