Turkey bashers sacked by Inghams

Monday, 25 March, 2013

Inghams has terminated five employees from its Tahmoor abattoir following Lateline’s airing of a video showing employees kicking, punching and stomping live turkeys prior to processing.

“We want to again reassure you that Inghams does not tolerate the mistreatment of our livestock,” said CEO Kevin McBain in a statement.

A full investigation is ongoing, McBain said, with the five employees being terminated as a result of the investigation.

The company said it installed video monitoring in live bird handling areas at the Tahmoor processing plant over the weekend to ensure animal welfare standards are met at all times.
