Recycle coffee grounds into coffee cups
Each year Australians send around a billion coffee cups to landfill and globally around 500 billion cups of coffee are consumed. The coffee cups are not the only waste product here — just imagine how much coffee grounds are left after making 500 billion coffees!
A German designer, Julian Lechner, has come up with a somewhat circular strategy — use the coffee ground to make coffee cups.
His company, Kaffeeform, is making coffee cups that are 40% coffee grounds mixed with natural glues and sustainably sourced wood grains. The finished cups are even dishwasher safe.
