Essentra Tear Tapes Rippatape X cross-tear opening device for packaging

Wednesday, 27 November, 2019 | Supplied by: Essentra Components

The Essentra Tear Tapes Rippatape X tape-based opening device provides for easy opening across paper, corrugated and fibreboard packaging, protecting goods from damage while also providing evidence of tampering. With cross-tear functionality, it is suitable for the easy opening of paper sacks within the food and industrial sectors. It also has retail packaging applications.

Manufactured using a 75-micron monoaxially oriented polypropylene (MOPP) film, the device provides fast access to a pack’s contents. Its water-based, adhesive solution does not impede the recycling of materials, meaning both the tape and board can be processed through established recycling facilities.

The device is designed to remove the need for knives or other sharp implements in the opening of packaging, reducing the risk of product damage or personal injury. The clean and safe opening helps the pack remain intact for potential returns, minimising the impact on the environment from needing to supply extra packaging. The tamper-evident nature of the device provides an indication if a packaging has been opened previously, providing brand and product protection.

The opening device has been designed to be applied to new and existing production lines at speeds of up to 450 m/min at the point of manufacture using Essentra’s custom-built applicators.
