The Hon Ed Husic to open Modern Manufacturing Expo
The Modern Manufacturing Expo has announced the participation of Minister for Science and Industry, The Hon Ed Husic MP, in the 2023 Expo, which will take place at the Sydney Showgrounds from 20–21 September.
Husic will give the Opening Address of the Smart Manufacturing Conference on Day 1 of the Expo at 9:15 am. His address will focus on the government’s vision to rebuild manufacturing and sovereign capability, exploring new technologies for Australian manufacturers and future opportunities from the National Reconstruction Fund.
Marie Kinsella, CEO of the International Exhibition & Conference (IEC) Group, organisers of the Expo, said the conference is an event that forms part of the larger Modern Manufacturing Expo, featuring a program of well-known manufacturing companies.
Husic was instrumental in spearheading the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund (NRF), which was officially passed through parliament in March 2023.
The fund allocated $1 billion to the advanced manufacturing sector, with a further $1.5 billion for medical manufacturing and $1 billion for investment in critical technologies such as AI and robotics.
The government will work closely with industry to ensure funding is efficiently allocated, developing co-investment plans that identify high-level investment opportunities in the sector.
