New Zealand updates micro abattoir risk management program
New Zealand Food Safety has published an update to the Risk Management Programme Template for Micro Abattoirs.
It has made a minor update to the template since it was published in October 2023.
The update removes references to the use of branding as an official device. Branding is now only required for animal material and animal products that require an official assurance for export.
The RMP template is designed for use by businesses which:
- slaughter and dress farmed mammals, ostriches or emus,
- have a low throughput,
- process meat for human consumption,
- operate a fixed or mobile micro abattoir premises,
- process meat for New Zealand and/or export countries that do not require Official Assurances.
