2018 APPMA Scholarship winner announced
In front of an audience of 500 packaging professionals, Nathan Leong, Packaging/Product Technologist at Primo Smallgoods, was announced as the winner of the 2018 APPMA Scholarship.
The scholarship — which was presented during a joint gala awards dinner between the 2018 PIDA Awards and the international WorldStar Packaging Awards — gives Leong the opportunity to complete a Diploma in Packaging Technology to the value of over $9000.
With a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (Major in Food Science & Nutrition) and 12 years’ experience in the food industry, Leong understands the importance of packaging design/development in the success of product protection, shelf life and marketing. Working in product and research development roles, the packaging and technical knowledge he will gain through this scholarship is expected to add value in his current business in both areas of product and packaging.
Nathan has supposedly always been curious about various types of corrugates used for sporting cards and the primary and secondary encased packaging formats. He is also interested in the progression in food packaging from tetra packs, reclosable films and creation of packaging through 3D printing. In the future, he aspires to be involved in designing packaging that may benefit the world in some way.
