New beverage can plant to open in Cambodia

Metal packaging supplier Crown Holdings announced its intention to build a new beverage can plant in Sihanoukville in Cambodia. The new plant will accommodate multiple can lines and will initially produce 725 million two-piece 330mL cans annually. Crown anticipates the plant will be operational in Q3 2013.

The new plant will be the company’s second in Cambodia; the first is in Phnom Penh. Crown also has plants in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, as well as three in Vietnam. A fourth plant in Danang, Vietnam, will open in Q2 2013.

“Cambodia is growing at a steady pace and this in turn is driving increased demand for our customers’ products, and we are experiencing a preference on their part for two-piece aluminium beverage cans,” said Jozef Salaerts, President of Crown Asia-Pacific.

“This newest investment is supported by a long-term contract with a major brewer and is consistent with the company’s growth plans.”
