Innovia Films are helping Italian school children learn healthy eating habits. Under the EU funded ‘Frutta nelle Scuole’ (School Fruit Scheme), children aged 6-11 years are given organic fruit wrapped in Innovia’s NatureFlex NVS each day at school.
The transparent NatureFlex NVS - a compostable, cellulose-based material - is converted and sold to packers by Italian company CORAPACK Srl. It is made from wood, from managed plantations operating on good forestry principals, is certified compostable in both home and industrial composting environments and is also suitable for anaerobic digestion.
“NatureFlex NVS was the ideal choice to flow wrap the fruit as it not only protects the product inside, due to its semi-permeability to moisture, but also provides good machinability and printability, ensuring a nice pack appearance,” said Fabrizio Radice, Sales Manager at CORAPACK.
“In addition, the film has excellent environmental attributes, such as being compostable and made from renewable resources.”
According to Innovia, NatureFlex has inherent dead fold and anti-static properties, high gloss and transparency, resistance to grease and oil, is a good barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils and has a wide heat-seal range.
