I Spy Pies uses X-rays
A food X-ray machine is in use at the I Spy Pies processing plant at Maroochydore. The machine is installed on the pie line to ensure the company’s pies are free of physical contaminants.
This is the third food X-ray machine installed at the plant by Accuweigh’s Brisbane branch. Although food X-ray machines are much more expensive to purchase than their metal detection counterparts, the X-ray inspection machines have the ability to thoroughly inspect product in foil trays, which is not possible using metal detection-based food inspection equipment.
Food X-ray machines can also detect and highlight other potential contaminants such as bone, rubber, glass and stone, as well as the usual range of metal objects, and are able to determine mass, useful in preventing product shortages in pre-packed cartons containing multiple smaller boxes.
