A prototype system designed to help consumers, farmers and other interested parties trace the geographic origin of food at all stages of production from ‘farm to fork’ - storage, processing and distribution - has been developed by researchers.

Catchpoint has created a backless label which renders the wasteful backing on labels obsolete, thus helping to reduce the 104,200 tonnes of waste produced a year attributed to self-adhesive label production. The company is currently trialing Sherwood Technology's DataLase colour change solution for marking directly onto the backless labels.
Campbell's improves 'print and apply' barcode labels

Zip-Pak has announced that UVA Packaging has launched a vertical form/fill/seal technology that applies slider zippers to corner-sealed and block bottom bags. The Newton 400 is capable of producing over six different types of flexible packages. The technology is suitable for pet food, powdered products and frozen food packages ranging from two to seven kilograms.
