The project developed a scanner for measuring the total surface area of patches of visible set-off on the food contact surface of packaging, and exposure techniques and analytical methods which allowed the measurement of individual ink components on the food contact surface of packaging. The extent of migration of these ink components from packaging into food was also quantified.
  • Processing and filling technology for liquid-food beverages
    BIG (Bottling Investment Group), the production firm of The Coca-Cola Company, has gained a foothold in Malaysia with a greenfield facility serving as a showcase for bottlers in the entire region. The plant was designed to meet the needs of Coca-Cola’s move into the liquid-food beverage market. The plant has a number of sustainability features and innovations including the twin-flow filler in monobloc design from Krones, with separate pre-dosing of pulp and subsequent filling of juice on a PET hotfill line.

    The Powersleeve Evolution 4 high-speed shrink-wrap machines implement a floating sheath opening, rotary synchronised multi-blade graduated cutting, transfer of the sleeve by ejection and pre-positioning of the packaging by scrolling (simple, double, turned over or not).
  • High-speed wraparound machine
    The Krones Wrapapac wraparound machine has an output of up to 80 cycles a minute. To ensure enhanced operational dependability, the redesigned Wrapapac WT dispenses with what in most cases used to be mechanically synchronised drive units. Where one central motor used to transmit the power via chains and gearwheels, decentralised servomotors are now being used. Service and operator sides have also been kept rigorously separate.
