Which is the most energetic industry in Australia?

Monday, 11 August, 2014

While more than 1.25 million Australians keep themselves going with energy drinks each week, workers in the transport, retail and recreation industries are up to twice as likely as the rest of us to reach for a pick-me-up in a can, research from Roy Morgan shows.

Around 1 in 7 workers in the Transport/Storage sector (14%) consumed at least one energy drink in an average week, coming in just slightly ahead of the 13% of those working in the Retail sector who are indulging in these drinks.

Approximately 1 in 10 people in the Recreational/Personal (10%), Manufacturing, Public Administration/Defence, Construction or Communication industries (all 9%) drank energy drinks. This is around double the proportion of workers in Finance, Property or Business Services, Wholesale or Community Services industries who consume energy drinks.

While only 7% of workers in Agriculture or Mining consume energy drinks, those who do drink them drink more of them. Agriculture workers drink 4.7 glasses per week on average, compared with 4.2 glasses for Mining workers. The Australian average is 3.3 glasses per week.

7% of workers in the electricity, gas and water industries consume energy drinks, but - rather ironically - the energy industry has the lowest consumption rate: just 2.3 glasses per drinker per week.
