Nestlé builds Nescafé Dolce Gusto factory in Germany

Friday, 02 March, 2012

Nestlé is set to build a new €220 million Nescafé Dolce Gusto factory in Germany.

The factory strengthens Nestlé’s successful Nescafé Dolce Gusto business. “With a growth rate of over 50%, it is one of the fastest growing businesses for Nestlé in Europe,” said Laurent Freixe, Nestlé’s zone director for Europe, in a media release.

Nescafé Dolce Gusto is Nestlé’s machine and capsule ‘coffee shop experience-at-home’ system for hot and cold beverages, offering nearly 30 coffee, Nesquick and Nestea varieties.

Expected to become operational by the end of 2013, the factory will create 450 jobs. It aims to produce about two billion coffee capsules a year for the German, Eastern European and Scandinavian markets.

The factory, based in Schwerin, will be the company’s third Nescafé Dolce Gusto factory since opening its first in 2006 in Tutbury in the United Kingdom. Last year, Nestlé invested £110 million in the site to triple production.

Nestlé will seek leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) certification from the United States Green Building Council for the site.
